January 6-18, 2027
PROGRAM OVERVIEWThis 11-day immersive program in Barcelona brings together students from performing arts, visual art, architecture, design, writing, and media to explore how creative practices intersect, influence one another, and respond to the city’s cultural and urban context.Students spend the first days absorbing the rhythms of Barcelona—its neighborhoods, museums, architecture, and creative hubs—to see how history, place, and local practice shape artistic work. The second phase is devoted to collaborative studio-making, experimenting with space, movement, sound, image, text, and object. Emphasis is on process, dialogue, and discovery across disciplines.Local Guides: Gaudí, Tàpies, and CerdàWe think alongside three local guides embedded in the city’s rhythms. Gaudí shows us composition as a living system of structure, movement, and light. Tàpies teaches us to notice material intelligence, memory, and gesture. Cerdà reveals the ethical and political dimensions of space through systems and circulation. Their ideas shape how we see, build, and perform—offering orientation and inspiration for all disciplines, and encouraging us to consider the intimate and monumental, the gestural and systemic, and the embodied and collective in our making.

BARNA ARTS offers students the opportunity to meet and learn from local artists, collaborate, and immerse themselves in Barcelona's rich cultural landscape — from Gaudí's architecture and the Festival GREC to contemporary theatre, dance performances, and countless other artistic offerings throughout the city.".BARNA ARTS is a space for sharing and exchange — a place where artists meet on equal ground to share tools, knowledge, and foster genuine togetherness. We're intimate and curated — every interaction is thoughtfully handheld, with one-on-one engagement and feedback that honors each artist's individual journey.
Nestled in nature, we create a reflective hub where artists have the space and time to digest their learning, question their practice, and discover how they want to work in the world.
Curiosity Through Play
We cultivate radical, active play and curiosity — essential ingredients for survival in our field. We believe in thinking inside the dancing, where movement and reflection are inseparable.Care and Respect
We carefully curate who we work with, seeking out educators and artists who empower dancers through care, respect, and playfulness. Our community is a safe space where questioning is encouraged and diverse ways of working are celebrated.Bridging Communities
We work to bridge gaps between different dance communities, creating discourse about the what, why, and how of our practice. We're interested in how different mediums influence and juxtapose with movement — because interdisciplinary isn't a choice, it's inherent in everything we do.Exposure and Connection
We provide deep, hands-on experience of the intermingling of our field, connecting students to experimental performances, artists, spaces, residencies, and curators. Barcelona itself becomes part of the learning experience — students explore the city's world-renowned architecture, attend performances at Festival GREC, discover theatre and dance venues, and engage with the vibrant arts scene that makes this city a cultural hub.
Intimate, Curated Intensives
We create carefully curated summer training programs and intensives that hold space for genuine learning. Away from the main school environment, artists can see different ways of making work, understand how to collaborate, and reflect on their practice.
Our workshops, classes, practices, and performances are designed to exchange knowledge while fostering a sense of community and shared exploration.Community Building
We provide education and safe community spaces where artists can explore, fail, succeed, and grow together—surrounded by nature and supported by people who care about the future of our field.
Dancers, choreographers, and teachers Albert Quesada and Katie Vickers, who have experience in Spain, Belgium, and the US, are organizing a spectacular courses in the beautiful city of Barcelona, Spain.
